Billy Elliot San Francisco | Orpheum Theatre

“’Billy Elliot’ … isn’t a dance show; it’s about why people need dance,” – Ben Brantley, New York Times

“Billy Elliot” is the story of a young boy from the coal-mining community in Northern England and his struggle to follow his passion for dancing which he discovered by accident on his way home from a boxing training, despite his family and community’s disapproval for all things artsy.

The musical is based on the screenplay written by Lee Hall which was the foundation of the 2000 film of the same title. Hall also wrote the lyrics and the book from which the musical is based while Elton John composed the music and Stephen Daldry was at the helm of the creative team as director.

The musical will hit the road again for its second national tour beginning on November 2010 in Durham, NC. “Billy Elliot” is also scheduled to dance its way to the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco for a limited engagement in summer of next year which will open on June 27, 2011.

“Billy Elliot” will feature Carole Shelley as Billy’s “Grandma”, Gregory Jbara as “Dad”, Haydn Gwynne as Billy’s dance mentor “Mrs. Wilkinson” and Kiril Kulish, David Alvarez and Trent Kowalik alternating as “Billy”.
