American Idiot San Francisco | Orpheum Theatre
“The first great musical of the 21st century” (The Toronto Star) is coming back to its roots in the bay area for a month in 2012. ‘American Idiot’ the musical will be staging a limited engagement at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, from June 12 to July 8, 2012 only.
‘American Idiot’ is the story of three friends caught in a pivotal life dilemma during the aftermath of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, whether to go after their dreams in the concrete jungle or bask in the safety the suburban life offers. Boasting of scores from Green Day’s Grammy Award winning albums “American Idiot” and “21st Century Breakdown”, which spawned the timely, chart topping and critically acclaimed singles “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, “Wake Me Up when September Ends”, “21 Guns” and the title track, and lead by a team of critically acclaimed theatre geniuses – Tony Award winners Michael Mayer (‘Spring Awakening’) directing and Tom Kitt (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of ‘Next to Normal’) in charge of orchestrations and arrangements – it is no wonder that ‘American Idiot’ is hailed by critics as a “thrilling, emotionally charged” (Charles Isherwood, The New York Times) musical that changed the landscape and has set the bar high for future Broadway shows.
